Our Story
Desire Ambrose – FOUNDER & CEO
Beautiful Land, Beautiful People, Beautiful Transformation
When I started Territory Explorers, I was inspired by a simple truth that many people miss: Uganda and all of East Africa have beauty, wildlife, and landscapes as stunning as anywhere else in the world.
Our misty mountains, wide savannas, untouched national parks, old migration paths, traditional homelands, and rich biodiversity have attracted explorers for generations.
But there’s another truth that’s equally important truth: the communities living near these natural wonders often stay in poverty, even though millions of tourism dollars come into our region every year.
I wondered, why should we just be the background for other people’s adventures when we could create our own success stories? I also thought about how often we stop to notice the natural beauty around us.
Are there local ecosystems you think people overlook? How can we build more gratitude and respect for the places we share with wildlife? Has anyone ever pointed out beauty in something you took for granted?
Have you noticed how getting used to our natural world can make us take it for granted? How can we appreciate the places we know well while still exploring new wild areas? What can help us see the amazing in what seems ordinary? What can we do to look at our surroundings with fresh wonder? Most importantly, why should explorers come all this way just to look, instead of truly changing? These questions inspired me to build a platform that helps fellow Africans rediscover their own treasures, see things differently, and unlock the real potential of our homeland. I decided to make the most of who I am and what I have, to use the opportunities around me and not settle for less.
Changing the Narrative
For too long, Africans in wildlife tourism have been given only a few roles: the tracker, the porter, the ranger, or the cook. These are important jobs, but they are usually just supporting parts in someone else’s story.
We want to change the story so Africans are not just seen as the poacher, the pirate, the ranger, the guide, or the people who sing when you get off your safari vehicle.
Territory Explorers started because we believe we should be the main characters in our own story. We deserve to own safari companies and lodges, lead conservation efforts, and decide how our wildlife and lands are shown to the world.
When local people decide how their culture and natural heritage are shared, something special happens. Tourism becomes a real force for conservation and community empowerment, not just an industry that takes from us
A Vision Beyond Wildlife Viewing
We don’t just offer vacations. We create journeys that help you discover new places and new parts of yourself. Every Territory Explorers experience is designed to meet your deepest wishes—whether you want to follow ancient migration routes, find inspiration in untouched wilderness, or discover something new about yourself in wild places.
Our company is not just about showing visitors the wildlife wonders of East Africa, though we do that very well. We want to show what’s possible when Africans lead in tourism and create experiences that travelers remember long after they go home.
Meaningful Connections, Not Tourist Checklists
The real difference between tourism and true exploration is how deeply you connect. Our experiences are made to immerse you in the real Uganda and East Africa, not as a bystander but as someone who takes part in meaningful moments.
Feel the ground under your feet as you follow wildlife through their natural paths and move to the beat of traditional dance, with stories told in every movement. Spend evenings with local communities whose traditions have lived alongside wildlife for centuries, each custom showing a deep understanding of living in harmony with nature, passed down through generations.
Listen to local conservationists and elders share their wisdom around campfires under starry skies, places where people and wildlife have gathered for thousands of years. See how traditional knowledge and modern conservation come together to protect our lands. Take part in community projects that change both the territories and you.
From Consumer to Creator, Visitor to Visionary Visitor to Visionary
We have changed the old way of territory tourism. Our team members are not limited to low-wage jobs. They are wildlife photographers, business owners, marketing experts, and experience designers, all building skills for lasting careers while protecting the places we care about.
But we also want to help you change. Exploring with us is not just about seeing wildlife. It’s about finding new connections to nature, discovering a passion for conservation, learning about your own strengths, and going home with more than just photos—with new perspectives and a deeper bond with wild places.
Journeys Beyond Destinations
When you travel with Territory Explorers, you’re not just visiting Uganda and East Africa. You’re joining a movement to change what African tourism means. You help us create a new story where Ugandans and East Africans are not just guides, but visionaries and leaders in the industry.
And as you do this, you’re also creating a new chapter in your own story. You might find peace in the rhythm of wildlife and village life, discover a love for conservation photography, or make connections with people and places that change how you see nature.
This is how tourism should be: respectful, renewing, revolutionary, and truly life-changing.
Welcome to Territory Explorers, where every journey changes both you and the places you visit.
